Since we are going to be taking Riley with us to Costa Rica, we wanted to start him with some fruit/vegetables that would be available down there so we didn't have to fly with a suitcase of strained peas or stuff like that. So we decided to give start off some avocado tonight, because hey, everyone likes guacamole, right?
So we have a bowl full of mashed "aligator pear" as some people like to call them, ready to go, and a bowl of oat... OK, OK, I'll cut to the chase.
Giving Riley some mashed avocado went over like a fart in church.
Seriously.
He despised them. We then tried to be sneaky and mix some in with his cereal. That was almost as bad as giving him straight up 'cado. He wouldn't even take untainted cereal. Tears, wailing, you name it. He wanted no part of this unholy 'mole... from his dad. Or the spoon.
After giving him some formula, Alison finally was able to get him to eat cereal with some of the green horror mixed into, by letting him chomp it off her finger. Now, some of you might be thinking "eww, gross off of her finger??" But if it works, it works.
I can't wait until we try to feed him some really gross stuff like pineapple glazed ham , veal and chicken lasagna .

No news is good news...
Nothing major going on...
Riley is still teething, has re-learned to blow raspberries which makes feeding time really fun lately and has basically been having fun with lots of playdates! He's going to have his first non-cereal meal tonight...AVOCADO! Jim and I had a playdate ourselves...we got to see Drag The River (aka- Half The River!) and eat dinner out with some friends while the boy hung out in Cranny with Grammy and Poppy.
P.s.- you guys made our weekend...hell, you made our 2007! You know who you are and what you did!

The Sidewinder Strikes Again!
This morning, before Jim went to work, I felt a knock at my computer chair and thought Maggie knocked into me. I was wrong. Riley has a new nickname...the Sidewinder, since he doesn't crawl, he just shimmies on his back to get where he wants to be!

GT's with the Stoudts!
Thanks again, Michelle, for the cute pics! The last 2 are photographic proof (See Kristi? He does cry and become a total fusspot on the drop of a dime! ha ha) that Riley is not always happy, although he is a pretty happy little dude.
In other news...we have a third tooth coming on and it looks like his top teeth aren't far behind as Michelle "schooled me" yesterday on this whole teething thing. Apparently, his top gums are swollen and you can feel the teeth (who knew??) getting ready to cut through! Well, at least this explains his recent fussmonster behavior over the last few days.

Me Likey!
So, Jim got home early yesterday with the ice storm and all..so we decided to try and give rice cereal a whirl. Riley LOVED it and we have video proof, which we'll hopefully upload soon. He loved the first bite and ate it all...every time Jim or I took out the spoon from his mouth, he would cry for more cereal. "More" ended up being a bath instead.
First spoonful!
Rice cereal RULES!
Mmmm, rice fingers are so much better than spit-up fingers!
I can feed myself, dammit!
Is there any more of that rice stuff? No? Alright, I'll just see what I can suck off my bib.
I double dog dared Jim to try it but instead, he just hammed it up for the camera
Riley and his "Schmatta"..yes, we even dress him up in silly things while he bathes, Kristi! ha ha

Snoozers
This week, we are having a few firsts (but I guess when they're this little, every week has some level of "first-dom")..anyway, Riley fell asleep at night on his own for the first time this week! Since then, we've been trying to "ferberize" him- we lay him down after his bottle and let him play with his mobile or aquarium and then let him cry for a little bit, pick him up if patting his back doesn't work, and then put him back in the crib and start the whole cycle over again. It seems to be going okay so far...last night was the 2nd night, and he only went through 2 cycles before falling alseep, although he did end up falling asleep on my shoulder instead of the crib. We're also going to let the little piglet start rice cereal this weekend- he's been eyeing up our food (and making chewing motions every time we eat) for a couple of weeks so we guess it's time to let him dig in.
We had a mega-playdate yesterday with Deville, Dylan, & Jonah- pics to be posted soon!
Oh, and Jim and I started researching daycares for next year...well, for September when I go back to work. Ugh, what a pain in the butt!

Everybody, Meet Smuggins
So, this is Riley's "Smuggins" face- when either one of us is holding Riley, he'll look at the one not holding him and be all "yeah, look at me, I'm being cuddled and you're not"..so we call him Smuggins. In this pic, we were trying to take a pic of his faux-hawk since he hasn't really grown any hair on the side of his head but had a mass of it down the center of his head. heh heh- I spike it up with his Mustela cleansing fluid for giggles. My dad called it a "Mohican" this week, and Jim, Greg, and I were dying in laughter.

Passports, interviews and drool
Well, Riley and I are in the process of getting our new passports! We had to pay the expedited fee (ARRGGHHHH!) since I was retarded and thought 8 weeks would be enough time for the State to slap together 2 passports. Anyway, my old picture was bad, but my new one is FREAKIN' HORRIBLE, even Jim said I look fug! Riley looks kinda weird too..but the lady at Walgreen's thought she was Annie Lebowitz since she couldn;t stop yapping about her amazing pic. Dude, it's a passport photo, relax. I was particularly impressed with how she was able to capture the pool of drool welling up in the right corner of his mouth, tee hee. Riley's had a rough couple of days/nights with his teething and is pretty much living off of Tylenol- poor little bub. My job interview was pretty awesome so I'm counting on getting a call back for a second interview sometime in the next couple of weeks...the Superintendent said, "See you in a week or two" so I'm feeling confident about it thus far. Have a good weekend, suckers!

We knew it was coming...
Riley popped his second tooth through between last night and this morning! Yay! I thought he was just being fussy (lost of crying and needy to be held) this morning because he got his second round of rotavirus vaccine yesterday, but nope, it was prolly his second tooth bothering him! Well, I hope this means he doesn't really start biting me because he's been quite good at keeping the nursing nibbles at bay for the last couple of weeks.

Weekend
Well, this weekend was way better than the one before it. Instead of hanging out at home trying to get Jim better from the virus that was kicking his butt, we had a massload of company! On Friday night,Nikki and her 3 girls were up for a visit from Florida to visit Mike in Fort Monmouth so they all came over (after a trip into NYC) for pizza and other goodies. Saturday, Dave, Karen and Deville came over for dinner (Jim had his chef hat on!) and we just hung out with the boys and talked about diapers and mashed bananas. Pics of Saturday to follow below (I forgot to break out the camera on Friday night) Sunday was Riley's 5 month "birthday" so we celebrated by going out and buying him a bathing suit for Costa Rica in May and Jim put together his kick ass dinosaur toy that he got from Grandma for Xmas.
Hmmm, not too much else is new and exciting, although we are planning to visit Uncle Greg this weekend and hit up the Philly Flower Show (woot!). I also have a job interview on Friday so that should be interesting- Eek!
