5 month doc visit

Riley had his 5 month "well" visit this afternoon- he's doing a-ok! He is in the top 90th percentile for his weight and height..meaning he's a total chunk but he's tall too, so hopefully, it'll all balance out someday. His head circumference is in the 75th percentile so marketing him as the next Pinhead down on the Asbury Park boardwalk is not in our future. He's a solid little boy with huge ham hocks for legs (he's got Mesko legs for sure). Dr. Uma always remarks on how chubby he is since neither Jim and I are chubby (next time I'm going to tell her that all my tights have control top) and it gets me wondering what she says to parents of bigger babies that are overweight/obese. It must be weird...Well, you're daughter is in the 90% for weight, but um, errrrr, yeah.

Some new pics

Nothing new and exciting to report...but here's some cute pics! If you look closely to the last pic, you might be able to see Riley's little pincher tooth!

Mommy's Little Monster

Riley has decided he likes to chomp down (really freakin' HARD) on things now- my Mom thinks he's got a second toother coming in...for awhile, he was just biting our fingers, bottles, and his frozen teething rings and sparing his lovely mother. But oh no, he's moved on and I'm about ready to quit this whole nursing thing, especially if Riley has another sharp little friend putting up shop in his mouth soon. OUCH x 2 = No thanks!

ice storm

Here's some cool pics of the ice storm that I took on the drive home from Newark Airport. As much of pain in the ass ice storms are, they sure can be pretty!

We're back!

Yup, we're back from sunny Florida! We had a fantastic visit with grandma and everyone and the weather was awesome (oh, how I love my flip flops). However, Jet Blue or that wussy ice storm couldn't keep us away from getting back to Daddy..although we did have to stay in Florida for too extra days (poor us).

Some things Riley learned to do in Florida-

* pee in his face, not once, but thrice.
* Since he was sock-less for almost the entire trip, he has found that he can eat his toes and he loves it.
* walk in the sand and then cry when the sand was being washed off
* be an absolute angel for his babysitters- every time Grandma watched him, he was a total sleep-a-saurus
* giggle like there's no tomorrow (it's quite a riot when he really gets his giggle on)
* sleep on his stomach, which scared me b/c he tends to like to sleep face down but everybody says that he'll be fine since he's getting in the position by himself. Jim and I will be feeling alot better about this whole belly sleeping issue when Riley has learned how to roll back over onto his back.

Riley was great on the flight going down as he slept the entire way down (so, I guess I owe him a beer now on his 17th birthday!) and was pretty good on the way back home. He fell asleep (literally) as we ascended into the air- I think he felt that weird, flutteriness of lift-off b/c as soon as we started going up, he just got this dopey grin on his face and just smiled until I stuck a bottle in his mouth to ease the pressure on his ears. He drank the bottle and then passed out- woke up again about an hour into the flight (right in the middle of an episode of What NOT to Wear that I had not seen, the little turd) and just loved being paid attention to by the 10 year old little girl and 5 year old little boy I was sitting next to during the flight. We hit a buttload of turbulence when we got into NJ since we had to circle the airport for a bit and it seemed like the entire plane population was feeling pretty green (myself included and I've been on tons of planes and have never felt airsick) but Riley was quite the trooper and just laid his head down on my shoulder and relaxed. I'm pretty proud of him since there were two ladies behind me chucking their biscuits. Next trip for Master Riley- Costa Rica in May! Wooo hooo! The flight there is a bit longer but I'll have Daddy, Poppy, Grammy, and Uncle Greg to help out with entertaining the little guy!

Riley gets his wings

Rumor has it, that on a packed flight, (including a one hour wait on the tarmac) Riley was deemed the best kid on the plane by the Newark based flight crew. I guess it helps that he slept the whole way there.

You are now free to move about the cabin

Dear Riley..

Dear Riley-

Please sleep through the entire flight down to Grandma's tonight. Save me the utter embarrassment of nervously explaining to all the disgruntled passengers what a sweet and happy baby you normally are while you flail and wail down the airplane aisle. Better yet, let all the pissed off passengers go momentarily deaf until you fall asleep so they won't have the chance to give me the stink-eye. Mommy and Daddy can't afford to buy everyone in the plane a drink, so be extra sweet and sleepy tonight from 6-9 pm, okay? I'll let you taste your first beer at 17, if you comply with my wishes!

Love, Mom (and Dad, b/c he certainly doesn't want to hear my tale of Jet Blue woe)

When Mommy's not looking

Today, I was on the computer and Riley got really quiet while playing on his activity mat. I thought he had fallen asleep, but oh, no, he was just trying to sneak off. Luckily, he's not too smart yet since he was trying to skulk away in the wrong direction!

4 months sure goes by fast!

I love checking out Skater baby's and his cousin Miles' blog so I decided to start one for Riley...um, 2 months ago...so I'm getting off my fat duff and finally making a post. Hmm, what's new? Riley got a tooth yesterday(his 4 month birthday) and enjoyed (slept through) his first Super Bowl, where Jim won $50! Uncle Greg was there to celebrate with us- he brought dark chocolate covered potato chips and delicious bread to dip into homemade cheddar fondue! We think Riley popped that tooth just because we were having such delicious crap-tastic Super Bowl treats (alone with the fondue, we had mini tacos, hot wings and thai crispy spring rolls) and he wants in on it . Anyway, this blog ain't about my chompage but about the little guy, himself, so I guess I can have a record of how cool he is and maybe so other peeps will enjoy checking how rad he is at their own leisure instead of me bombarding them with picture-filled emails and links to Snapfish!

Enjoy the pics!

P.s.- We're not Steelers fans but my Mom's friend bought him this little gym suit. He seems to enjoy it but really he's just cracking up over Uncle Greg making silly faces above the camera
